Coaching and Volunteering at BYH
As a volunteer-run organization, Brookline Youth Hockey thrives on the involvement of our parents. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help our players develop on the ice.
Coach Selection Process
- Travel Coaches: All coaching appointments are subject to approval by the Co-Presidents.
- Mite Coaches: Selection for the Mite program will be finalized before the start of each season.
Mandatory Safety & Compliance To ensure a safe environment for our athletes, all coaches, board members, and volunteers with regular athlete contact must complete the following steps annually:
Registration and certification
The following compliance steps are mandatory for all coaches, board members, and volunteers. These requirements apply to any adult who has regular contact with, or authority over, athletes within the BYH program.
USA Hockey Requirements
(Must be completed before participating in any team activities)
- Register as a member of USA Hockey: Register Here
- Complete the background screening. Complete Here
- Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training (required every year). Complete Here
- First-time coaches complete the Foundations of Player Development Pre-requisite. Login USA Coaching Learning Center. Complete the Foundations module first; wait 15 minutes for the age-specific module to unlock for purchase.
- Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. Click Here for Information/Login
Coaching Education Program Certification Clinic Requirements
(Must be completed by Dec. 31 each season)
Locate and register for your required certification clinic.
Please note that coaches may only attend one clinic per season, and all new coaches must begin at Level 1. Clinics are typically posted in early September and must be completed by December 31.
