Evaluations/Tryouts FAQ

Absolutely! Skating is the foundation of hockey, so we recommend a Learn-to-Skate program as the first step. Then our Learn-To-Play program. To ensure every child feels confident, we offer multiple teams at every age level, pairing players with peers of similar skill and experience. For those starting at the Peewee level or older, we also offer "practice-only" roster spots to help develop skills at a comfortable pace if not ready to play in games. As a community-based program, we take pride in providing a roster spot for every player who registers.

A: Players should attend the session corresponding to their age level for the upcoming 2026–2027 season. For example, a player currently finishing their final Mite season should attend the Squirt (10U) evaluations.

A: New players who do not attend evaluations will be placed on the lowest-level team within their age classification (e.g., Mite 4 or Squirt 4). While we understand conflicts arise, BYH policy dictates that tryouts for other organizations are not considered an excused absence. If an extraordinary circumstance, such as a documented injury or family emergency, prevents attendance, please contact your current coach or one of the Co-Presidents to discuss potential placement options.

A: Yes! Goalies are expected to attend all scheduled evaluation sessions for their specific age level. Additionally, goalies may be invited to participate in sessions for other age groups if extra net-time is needed for player evaluations.

A: No. Everyone must have final balances (in addition to the registration fee for tryout/evaluations) paid to attend. Please note, BYH offers tuition assistance for further information, CLICK HERE.
